The run of the game (13:00–18:40, ~6 h) – the station’s last day, in real time.

The home dies at dusk. There are fewer escape seats than hearts

The year is 2184. After forty years of service, the HELIOTROPE station is to burn up in Neptune’s atmosphere tonight. The crew is twelve humans and androids who, after years under one roof, have stopped remembering who is listed in which column. Watching over it all is MOTHER – an artificial intelligence that has cared for the crew and the station for forty years. Along the way she learned something the original documentation never anticipated.

This evening an escape shuttle will dock with the station. It carries just eight hibernation seats.

We say this up front, because it is not a twist, but the premise of the game. The question is who takes the eight seats and at what price.

  1. 01The ending is not written. You will write it together with the crew.
  2. 02Your character sheet tells you who you are. MOTHER remembers a great deal more…
  3. 03Your costume and ID badge are waiting in the changing room, and you will learn the rules in a short workshop.

This is a game about relationships. Nobody counts points; the conflict is imposed by the system: law, procedure, physics. We play for love, loyalty, guilt and tenderness under the pressure of a clock. What remains are bonds too tangled to undo, and time, which in the third act stops being a backdrop.

“A station was never made of infrastructure – you are what makes the station.”

– MOTHER, management core of the HELIOTROPE station

MOTHER speaks through the speakers, but she also communicates through light – the rooms brighten when she is calm and pulse red when something is wrong. At Larp Space this is no mere convention: the lighting responds to the game scene by scene, and the sound runs across seven separate zones.

The HELIOTROPE station has an address in Częstochowa

The game takes place across the entire Larp Space venue – 198 m² that become the HELIOTROPE station for close to six hours. The main hall, 77 m² and four metres high, splits into three sections, each with its own light and sound – three scenes can run at once. Sliding doors join the White and Black apartments, or divide them into two separate worlds. Blinds black out the windows in seconds, so the time of day outside stops mattering. The crew has two kitchens, two bathrooms and a separate toilet by the hall available throughout. Food and drinks are on site for the whole game, and beyond the hull there is only vacuum.

More about the venue and rentals

Twelve of them. Like one family. By law – not all of them are human…

Six female and six male roles – we choose the cast before the game. Three AN units – androids – serve on the station openly, and nobody in the crew would call any of them “it”. Identity in this game is not a settled matter.

Who this game is for

Is the other person what interests you most in a game – conversations, bonds, emotions? You will feel at home. If you can hand a scene over to someone else and are not afraid of your character losing, you will find more here than a victory could give: defeats are what stories get told about for years. No larp experience required.

Who this game is not for

Looking for action, puzzles, winning? This is not the game for you. There is nothing to win here, only a home that goes dark tonight. And if goodbyes are too close to you right now outside the game as well, pick a better moment. The station will wait.

Tomasz Pałasz – the originator and owner of Larp Space, and the author of “Ostatnia zmiana”, his larp debut. He wrote the script in parallel with the build of the venue, because from the very start he wanted to squeeze everything he could out of the space. The result? Fiction and building interpenetrate here as rarely elsewhere: the modules of the HELIOTROP station are actual interiors, and MOTHER is to speak through the light and sound of a real technical installation. “Ostatnia zmiana” is also meant as a calling card for Larp Space – a game that shows what this place can do. The script is still being refined in detail, and its real test is still ahead of us – on a living organism, with the first players aboard the station.

Afterparty

When the station burns up in Neptune’s atmosphere, the crew comes back down to “earth”. After the game the entire venue turns into an afterparty space – it starts between 19:00 and 20:00 and ends around 1:00: time together, to slowly “come back down from orbit”. Before and after the game the whole space is yours.
